FOLKLORE LOVERS' COMMITMENT WRIST BANDS

Image:

In Folklore two pieces cut from the same Hawthorn branch were carried by lovers to show their love and commitment to each other before the days of the gold wedding band. This interesting piece of British Folklore was confirmed when an elderly couple approached us at Sidmouth Folk Festival 2005 with the two pieces of Hawthorn branch that they had cut and exchanged prior to their wedding. The pieces being cut from the same branch signifies consistancy and harmony. Could this be the origin of the saying 'Once divided never separated'?
